Hazelnuts can be earned like pistachios
Due to the high capacity of hazelnuts in Rudsar, it is possible to earn income by exporting this product, such as selling pistachios to the country.
Rudsar city, with the production of 10 thousand tons of hazelnuts, is considered as the center of hazelnut production in the country, which has been able to establish Iran as a source of hazelnut production, especially in the Eshkorat region.
Although Gilan is considered the hub of hazelnut production in the country and the hazelnut processing factories in this province should be able to create new employment opportunities for the natives of the region, only a few hazelnut breaking factories are active in this province. This has caused us to be deprived of the benefits of hazelnut exports, despite the significant production of hazelnuts in the country.
Qasem Rezaian, head of the Gilan Chamber of Commerce, said: 18,000 tons of hazelnuts are harvested annually from the country’s hazelnut orchards, which cover an area of ??about 20,000 hectares, but according to available statistics, the export volume of this product has not increased significantly.
He added: If sufficient support was provided to the producing farmers, it was expected that by 2014, the area under hazelnut cultivation would reach 67,000 hectares and the harvest would reach 38,000 tons, but the fact is that hazelnuts are among the most neglected crops. And less attention has been paid to its economic value.
The head of the Agriculture Commission of the Gilan Chamber of Commerce pointed out: The importance of investing in the field of hazelnut processing industries has been discussed many times in the meetings held, but until the government provides the necessary transparency for investors in this field and exports hazelnuts and their products as a Not to mention a profitable economic product, one cannot expect to attract private sector investment.
Rezaian added: Currently, hazelnuts are used for nuts and dried fruits and have entered the field of health and beauty less, while a country like Turkey has been able to earn about two billion dollars from the export of hazelnuts and its products. Which is equivalent to Iran’s income from pistachio exports
