How to store and wash kilims
One of the important points about modern kilims is how to wash, clean and maintain the kilims.
Washing and proper cleaning of kilims is of special importance and will cause the kilims not to lose their original quality after washing.
You can easily clean the purchased kilim using the following methods:
1: Normal dusting of kilims: In the first stage of washing kilims, try to dust, in dusting, the dust will come out. Then sweep it with a vacuum cleaner. This should not cause the weft of the kilim to rupture and damage its texture. Knocking a kilim on the ground is one of the wrong things to do to clean it.
Position your vacuum cleaner in the proper sleeping position of a fancy kilim. It is more effective to use vacuum cleaners that have a percussion brush with a regular and balanced program. This ensures that you can get both topsoil and bedding soils. Place the vacuum cleaner three or four times on each spot.
2: Use carpet shampoo
1- Before using the shampoo, be sure to sweep it (dusting).
2- To prepare the raw material for washing, pour one liter of water and two cups of carpet shampoo into a container and stir well (repeat this process each time)
3- Apply the raw material made in the previous step with a sponge on the kilim. The sponge on the kilim should be gently pulled; (Because only the lint of your kilim is dirty).
Tip 1: Try not to use empty water to wash the kilims (all kilims) because it becomes loose and sticky and dries later, because the moisture from the water reaches the roots of the kilims and the roots get wet in the environment. It rots and if you repeat this several times, your kilim will surely rot over time. You should not walk on the kilim for a long time.
4- Try to wash the kilims from the top of the kilim so that you do not walk on the parts where you have rubbed the shampoo floor. Apply the curtain net on the kilim (do this in the direction of the kilim’s sleep), then sweep it towards the kilim with a rough broom or wooden broom.
To better protect your kilim against damage, pay attention to the following points:
1: Try not to expose the kilims to direct sunlight for a long time
2: Be sure to use the principles mentioned in the instructions above to wash the kilims
3: Try not to use carpet washing too much to wash the kilims
