The faculty member of the Agricultural Engineering System Organization of Gilan said: the drought and decay of hazelnut trees in the province has intensified.

Hoshyarfard said: In every society, the train of development is put on the rail of agriculture and undoubtedly agriculture is one of the most basic foundations of development.

He added: Currently, relying on the soft economic power of food production with the development of knowledge-based, indigenous agriculture and relying on abundant domestic production resources in any part of which, God Almighty has not withheld from Iran, especially the Gilan region.

The faculty member of Guilan Agricultural Engineering Organization stated that Guilan province has special abilities and potentials in terms of geographical location and economic capabilities, and continued: Therefore, choosing an effective and appropriate development strategy to use regional capacities is essential.

Hoshyarfard pointed out: Hazelnut shrub, which is native to Europe, Asia Minor and the Caucasus, grows in the forests of Arasbaran, Astara, Talesh, Dinachal, Tarom and Zanjan, between the steppe and the forest, and in the hot mud forests in the east of Golestan province.

He added: Hazelnut, like any other product with processing, finds more diverse usability, which results in increasing its added value. By doing this, goals such as job creation and income and foreign exchange inflow into the country will be achieved in a more desirable way.

A member of the faculty of Gilan Agricultural Engineering Organization stated that Gilan province (mainly Eshkorat mountainous areas of Rahimabad Rudsar and Siahkal, Amlash and Talesh counties) with more than 17,000 hectares under cultivation and the activity of more than 50,000 hazelnut growers with average production About 14,000 tons per year is considered as the center of hazelnut production in the country (80% of the country’s hazelnuts), he said: Despite the climatic and environmental talent and the possibility of better use of this capacity in the region, unfortunately it must be acknowledged that production in the same traditional way with low yields And productivity continues to be minimal.

He added: Unfortunately, gardeners in the hazelnut-rich areas of the province have been suffering for several years in a situation where they are working hard to achieve the product and at the same time receive the lowest profit due to inadequate marketing and raw and bulk supply with the phenomenon of hazelnut trees. They face in their gardens.

Hoshyarfard said: This phenomenon usually infects all ages, especially mature and old trees, and in infected specimens, it has been observed that the infection gradually spreads and goes down from the branches to the bottom of the tree.

He continued: the growth of the infected tree decreases and after a few years it dries completely. Hazelnut decay seems to be caused by a combination of biological (fungi and bacteria) and physiological factors. Also, genetic capacity, climatic factors, tree age and improper crop operations such as inadequate quality and quantity of manure or chemical fertilizers and pruning problems can contribute to the complication. Of course, sudden spring frosts and damage to white-rooted beetles and wood-eating pests are also factors that have exacerbated the dryness and decay of hazelnuts.

The faculty member of the Agricultural Engineering Organization of Gilan, pointing out that it is believed that if the expert warnings of hazelnut cultivation and production in the province are not taken seriously and seriously, it will face significant negative economic and social effects, adding: The problems of hazelnut growers will play an important role in maintaining and promoting the global export position of this product. This issue undoubtedly requires the special attention of the government and other compassionate officials in addition to the attention of the provincial officials.

He added: In this regard, three clear proposals can be offered. First, in order to control this serious threat, a project entitled Strengthening the compatibility of Gilan hazelnuts against drought and decay, as well as creating a system of monitoring areas for hazelnut orchards with the necessary funding from relevant provincial agencies And Melli to be implemented as soon as possible with the cooperation of Guilan Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Center.

The faculty member of the Agricultural Engineering System Organization of Gilan reminded: Secondly, in order to increase production and further productivity, it is necessary to formulate and implement a comprehensive hazelnut plan. The most important results of the correct implementation of the plan are that the hands of brokers and intermediaries are cut off from the reach of hazelnut growers and gardeners send their product directly to the factory and benefit from its profitability, so that this issue will gradually increase the economic strength of hazelnut growers in the province.
