Iran has moved from the first place in the production of cumin to the last place
With the production of about five to 10 tons of green cumin last year, Iran’s position has dropped to the latest world ranking.
Rezaei – President of the Saffron Exporters Union added: Iran’s green gold is on the verge of extinction.
Referring to the employment of 600,000 to 700,000 people in this sector, who generally live in poor economic conditions and below the poverty line, he continued: It is expected that five to seven tons of cumin will be harvested this year, which indicates the very low willingness of farmers to plant this crop. It is national.
Acknowledging that Iran’s green cumin status has fallen from first to last place, Rezaei said: Syria produced 60,000 tons of cumin last year, while the world price of cumin is still determined by the price of Iran.
The president of the Saffron Exporters’ Union stated: We should help green cumin by creating a protection umbrella and preventing the activities of illegal stock exchanges and creating incentives for farmers, because with this situation, we will not have anything to say in the international arena.
Criticizing the non-fulfillment of the promises of the officials, he said: the government must go beyond the stage of words and speeches.
Rezaei informed of the good reception and demand of foreign countries for Iranian cumin and claimed: all the warehouses of the factories are empty and we must encourage farmers to cultivate.
The head of the Saffron Exporters Union added: Over 85% of the country’s green cumin is produced in the provinces of Khorasan, and letters have been written to the authorities proposing the formation of a cumin green union, but we have not received a response.
