Iran ranks sixth in the world in hazelnut production
The amount of hazelnut production in Iran is 11,000 tons, which makes it the sixth largest in the world.
Engineer Seyed Hossein Mirtabrizian, director of horticulture at the Mazandaran Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization, declared the area under hazelnut cultivation in Mazandaran province to be 1,556 hectares, adding: Of this area, 762 hectares are fertile and 294 hectares are seedlings.
He described the cultivars in Mazandaran as including native and improved cultivars that have been imported to Mazandaran since 1995 from Moghan Agro-industry and stated: Every year, cultivated cultivars are used for the development and construction of hazelnut orchards.
Mirtabrizian, pointing out that the highest distribution of hazelnut orchards in Mazandaran is in the heights and sloping lands of Ramsar, Tonekabon, Noor and Chalous counties, stated that the amount of hazelnut production in Mazandaran is 1,280 tons with an average yield of 1471 kg.
According to him, our country is ranked 23rd and 32nd in the world in terms of hazelnut skin and hazelnut kernel exports, respectively.
He added: In order to develop hazelnut orchards, the Jihad Agricultural Organization has located this product and supports the applicants of cultivation of this product in terms of scientific and practical issues and banking facilities.
