Iranian handmade carpets did not compete with foreign competitors
Mahmoud Akhavan, handmade carpet designer, stated: The obstacles facing Iranian handmade carpets can be examined culturally and economically.
Akhavan added: “With the change in the approach of the Iranian society in the past few years, people like foreign countries have moved towards fashion and the use of new layouts and because the design and role of our carpets is still the same as a hundred years ago, we see that young people want to use It has decreased.
“This cultural change has had a negative effect on the carpet market,” he said. They did not replace national carpets.
He said: “The economic crisis that occurred in the West a few years ago caused the Iranian carpet export market to fall sharply, and on the other hand, for various reasons, we could not compete with agile foreign competitors.”
In the end, the activist of the handmade carpet industry said: “Government institutions such as the National Carpet Center of Iran and the Carpet Joint Stock Company are not only not helping the private sector, but are also throwing stones.” It seems that in the carpet industry, as in other industries, there are hands that make government activities more profitable than private sector activities.
