Iran’s handicraft production grew by about 20 percent last year
Iran’s handicraft production last year increased by about 20% compared to 1980. Engineer Hojjatollah Babaei, Economic Deputy of Handicrafts Organization, on the sidelines of the opening of the largest Middle East Handicrafts Center in Tehran, referring to the employment of 2 million and 500 thousand people in Iranian handicrafts, said: So far, 160 types of industrial textiles have been registered in this sector. This number will gradually increase to 220 types.
He also referred to the establishment of a permanent handicraft center by Tehran Municipality, said: Due to the limited number of booths in this center in comparison with the variety of Iranian handicrafts, Tehran Municipality will hand over the booths to unions, cooperatives and reputable craftsmen in this sector. .
Babaei added: The role of the handicrafts organization in this center will be a supervisory and governing role. Referring to the decrease in Iranian carpet exports last year, he noted: Despite the antiquity, role and high quality of Iranian handicrafts, due to lack of proper marketing and some other problems, this industry has been marginalized over the past years, but Over the past year, the industry has undergone some transformation.
The economic deputy of the Handicrafts Organization mentioned European countries as the main market for Iran’s handicrafts exports and added: The duty of the Handicrafts Organization is to support the craftsmen of this sector and in this regard, this organization will represent them to use supportive banking facilities.
