Kermanshah kilim weaving in Iran
kilim weaving is one of the home handicrafts that is common in most parts of Kermanshah province. Traditional kilims are commonly used to cover land, walls or veneers for load-bearing animals, but are now also purchased as modern coatings for urban homes. The colors used in traditional kilims are plant-based. With the technique of kilim weaving, different tools are provided. Examples are screw beds (night tents), sacks and rugs. Kilim can be considered in two ways: one in terms of texture and the other in terms of role. Kilim is woven in most simple places.
Kilim weaving in Kermanshah province has a long history. The raw materials needed for the kilim weave are cotton yarn as yarn and colored woolen yarn as weaving. In addition, goat’s hair is sometimes used for the edge of the kilim.
Undoubtedly, the most important area of weaving kilims in Kermanshah province is Harsin, located 50 km from Kermanshah. Knitting kilims in Harsin and in other parts of kilim production in Kermanshah province are all vertical and made of all metal, the combination of metal with wood or all wood, and other tools are “cricket” and knife. Kermanshah province’s kilim designs and roles are divided into three parts: Kalhorneshin, Oramanat and Harsin, which in addition to the common aspects in the design and color, there are also creations in the work of each region. Currently, there are about 3,000 kilim weavers in Kermanshah province, most of them in the Hersin region. Kermanshah’s Hersin kilims are one of the best kilims in Iran.
Military spring motifs, and a combination of tree and sparrow nests, ducks, snakes, dolls, scissors, horizontal, vertical lines, the role of striped spools, cat claws, melon slices, overgrown flowers, cashmere flowers and needles are among the motifs in the kilim. Provinces, especially Hersin, can be seen. Hersin’s kilims also show many signs of the intertwining of civilization and cultures.
