Kurdistan handmade carpet market has remained stagnant
The Deputy Minister of Internal Trade Development of the Kurdistan Industry, Mining and Trade Organization said: The non-determination of the wages of carpet weavers is one of the factors influencing the stagnation of the handmade carpet market in Kurdistan.
Bakhtiar Khaliqi stated: In order to solve this problem, this organization has formed a wage council of carpet weavers in the province, consisting of relevant agencies.
He pointed out that this council was formed with the aim of organizing the pricing of carpets in Kurdistan, adding: With the formation of this council in Kurdistan, the real price of a handmade carpet is determined and in this regard, the hands of brokers will be cut off.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Trade Development of the Kurdistan Industry, Mining and Trade Organization stated that the payment of subsidies to the villagers was another factor influencing their unwillingness to weave carpets: Another factor influencing the decline of the handmade carpet market in Kurdistan was the lack of materials It has been original and high quality.
Noting that 85,000 weavers are currently weaving carpets in Kurdistan, Khaliqi added: The number of carpet weavers in Kurdistan last year was 90,000.

He considered the lack of financial support by the executive bodies involved in providing and distributing home business credits as one of the effective factors in reducing the number of carpet weavers in Kurdistan.

Khaliqi stated that the hand-woven carpet cluster will be set up in Kurdistan with the focus on the province’s industrial estates company, adding: In this project, goods related to the carpet sector, including materials, paints, export management networks, carpet unions, carpet cooperatives, carpet designers and Carpet writers will be formed in the form of carpet clusters.
Announcing that 25,000 weavers in Kurdistan were covered by carpet weaving insurance this year, he noted: The number of women carpet weavers insured is based on an inspection agreement between our National Carpet Center and the National Social Security Organization. Will be determined.
