Director of Jihad Agriculture of Malayer city said: The initial origin of saffron plant in Iran was Malayer and Nahavand cities, but due to the low acceptance of farmers in this region in cultivating this plant, it gradually moved to Khorasan and today this region has become the center of Iranian saffron. .
Seyed Mehdi Mirbagheri pointed to 101 hectares of saffron cultivation area in Malayer city and specified: This year, 10 hectares have been added to saffron cultivation area in Malayer city and Malayer is currently ranked first in Hamedan province in terms of saffron cultivation area.
He stated that an average of six kilograms of saffron is harvested from each hectare, adding that 250 to 300 kilograms of saffron are harvested from 101 hectares of saffron cultivation area, and farmers will start harvesting saffron from their fields in early November.
Mirbagheri pointed out that this plant is dehydrated and pointed out: this plant needs three times irrigation during a year and Malayeri farmers use the flood method for irrigation, which according to the climatic conditions of the city and rainfall in spring. No need for irrigation.
He said that this plant is cultivated in the lands of Avarzaman, Mehdi Abad, Rezvankadeh, Alamdar and several other villages. He continued: Malayer saffron has a good quality and color and in addition to meeting the needs of the city, farmers to cities and even Other countries export.
