National registration of Maragheh handmade silk carpet
Mohammad Parvin, the deputy director of the National Carpet Center of Iran, said: Maragheh is one of the centers for the production of hand-woven silk carpets in the country and the preparations for the registration of this art of industry called weavers of this city have begun.
He added in the coordination meeting for the creation of the Maragheh handmade carpet town: This city, with its 14,000 weavers, has a good capacity to develop this art of industry in the country.
Parvin stated that about 30,000 square meters of silk carpets are produced annually in Maragheh, adding: It is necessary to create a carpet town to increase production and develop employment in this city.
According to the deputy director of the National Carpet Center of Iran, this town will provide the necessary infrastructure for carpet production, from the supply of raw materials to dyeing, sales and exports.
He added: The carpets produced in Maragheh are unique in terms of texture, type of design and use of high quality raw materials in the country.
Parvin also announced the holding of 400 carpet weaving training courses to increase the skills of carpet weavers in the country.
Hamid Shokri, the governor of Maragheh, also pointed to the decrease in the production of hand-woven silk carpets in the city and said: National registration and the creation of a carpet town will be a great help to revive this art of industry in Maragheh.
He added: Necessary plans have been made to create this town and the necessary land has been identified and it will start its activities soon by appointing a board of trustees.
Maragheh city with a population of 268 thousand people is located in the south of East Azerbaijan province.
