North Khorasan onion sales forecast
The director of agriculture of North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: it is predicted that onion produced in this province will be sold at a reasonable price this year and farmers will not face price problems.
Mohammad Naghi Kazemian, pointing out that onion were planted on 2,900 hectares last year, added: This level has reached 2,800 hectares this year.
He continued by stating that 124 thousand tons of onion were harvested from the farms of this province last year: the production is expected to reach the same amount this year.
Kazemian also stated about tomato cultivation in this province: the area under tomato cultivation in this province this year is 3,200 hectares, while this area was 3,300 hectares last year.
He stated that the reason for the decrease in the area under cultivation of this product this year was the decrease in the price of this product last year.
The official clarified: It is expected that 212 thousand tons of tomatoes will be harvested from the farms of this province this year.
In response to the question whether the area under tomato and onion cultivation in this province is more than needed, he said: Farmers in North Khorasan have not increased the area under cultivation of these two crops this year more than the notified levels.
According to him, most of the tomato farms equipped with irrigation are for sale.
