Onion harvest in Iranshahr exceeded 15,000 tons
The director of Iranshahr Agricultural Jihad said: more than 15,000 tons of onion have been harvested from 2 hectares of agricultural lands in this city and sent to the consumer market.
Majid Fayazi, director of Iranshahr Agricultural Jihad, said: Onion harvesting has started since late March, so that a large number of job seekers in Iranshahr are harvesting this crop every day.
He said that an average of 50 to 55 tons of onions are harvested per hectare of land. Considering the rains of late last year and this year and farmers’ use of expert opinions in the planting and maintenance stages, more than 2,000 tons of red and white onions are expected, he said. Harvested in Iranshahr city and sent to the market for consumption.
The director of Iranshahr Jihad-e-Agriculture, referring to the high quality of onions produced in this city, stated: The climatic conditions of the region have caused less pesticides to be used for onion production, therefore, the products have a high quality.
He said that onion cultivation started in November and its harvest will continue until the end of June, adding: Texas and Karima cultivars are cultivated in Iranshahr, which has good marketing.
Fayyazi said: In addition to being supplied in the markets of Sistan and Baluchestan, the onions produced in Iranshahr are transported to the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, Tehran, Isfahan and Fars.
He stated: This year, more than 2 hectares of lands in Iranshahr are dedicated to onion cultivation, so that more than 50 people are harvesting this crop.
