Onion harvest started from 300 hectares in Iranshahr

The director of Iranshahr Agricultural Jihad said: the onion crop was harvested from 300 hectares of agricultural lands in this city.
Majid Fayazi, director of Iranshahr Agricultural Jihad, stated: An average of 50 tons of onions are harvested per hectare of Iranshahr agricultural land.

He continued: It is predicted that more than 15,000 tons of red and white onion products will be harvested and sent to the market in Iranshahr.

The director of Iranshahr Agricultural Jihad, referring to the high quality of onions produced in this city, stated: The climatic conditions of the region have caused less pesticides to be used for onion production, therefore, the products have a high quality.

He said that onion cultivation started in November and its harvest will continue until the end of June, adding: Texas and Karima cultivars are cultivated in Iranshahr, which has good marketing.

Fayyazi said: In addition to supplying the markets of Sistan and Baluchestan, the onions produced in Iranshahr are transported to the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, Tehran, Isfahan and Fars.

He stressed the importance of reforming the cultivation pattern in the agricultural sector to save water consumption.

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Iranshahr mentioned the use of modern irrigation system, planting, proper nutrition, and timely planting date as among the measures of Jihad Keshavarzi for better yield for planting this crop.

He stated: More than 50 people are working in planting and harvesting onions in Iranshahr city.
