Onion production increased 3 times

Despite a threefold increase in onion production compared to the previous year, we have no plans to export, said the head of the Central Fruit and Vegetable Market.

Mostafa Darainejad, head of the Central Fruit and Vegetable Traders’ Union, announced a threefold increase in onion production compared to the previous year and said: Despite the surplus of onion production, we have no plans to export.

He added: Currently, the surplus of onion production is to the extent that farmers have abandoned the surplus onions because due to the increase in transportation fares, farmers will not receive any income.

Criticizing the fact that the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture does not pay attention to farmers, Darainejad said: Although the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture should introduce alternative cultivation and allow cultivation based on domestic consumption and exports, but unfortunately the officials do not pay attention to this issue.

The head of the Central Square Bar Traders’ Union announced the current price of 2,500 to 3,500 tomans per kilo of watermelon and said: Considering the payment of 1,300 tomans for each kilo of watermelon and other costs, watermelon production is economically viable. Unfortunately, the officials do not pay attention to organizing transportation fares.

Referring to the price of fresh fruits, he said: At present, each kilo of melon is priced at 5 to 5 thousand and 500 Tomans, almond chunks are 15 to 25 thousand Tomans, green tomatoes are 30 to 90 thousand Tomans and strawberries are 15 to 20 thousand Tomans. The central square and with reasonable profit is offered in retail.

At the end of the current price, Daraei Nejad announced the price of 20,000 Tomans per kilo of bananas and said: Due to the ban on the import of bananas from India, bananas are expected to be imported in exchange for the export of all agricultural products, otherwise the price will reach 23,000.
