Peanut protein has a protective effect on the heart
According to US researchers, peanut oil and peanut seeds have similar effects in reducing the risk of heart disease.
The study showed the great benefits of non-fatty peanut protein, said Dr. Timothy Sanders of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Amanda Stephen of the University of North Carolina.
This study compared the effect of diets in mice that contained fat, carbohydrates and protein.
In three of these diets, peanut, peanut oil and lean peanut oil had the same caloric content, the fourth diet was used as a controlled diet to compare with the other three diets.
Comparing the control group, it was found that all three types of peanut diets had a significant effect on lowering cholesterol and low concentrations of lipoprotein or LDL (bad cholesterol).
However, there was no change in HDL or good cholesterol.
