Pistachio consumption and stress reduction
A group of experts from the Pennsylvania State University in the United States have claimed that pistachio kernels play an important role in lowering blood pressure and heart rate in stressful situations.
According to the Daily Mail, participants were given a variety of healthy diets, some of which contained pistachio kernels and some lacked.
The university’s experts then assessed the participants’ individual cardiovascular reactions in the face of a stressful mental state.
They found that people who consumed some pistachio kernels a day had the lowest blood pressure when exposed to stressful situations.
Daily topics such as a work schedule or public speaking can cause high blood pressure, which in turn is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, said Dr. Sheila West, who led the experiments.
He added: The recent finding on the effect of pistachio consumption on heart health is very important because it shows that physiological responses to stress are influenced by the food we eat.
The study is published in detail in the journal Blood Pressure.
