Pistachio harvest began in Mehriz city

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Mehriz city said: the work of harvesting pistachio in 6800 hectares of gardens of this city has started
Mahmoud Zarezadeh, stating that one thousand kilograms of dried pistachios are harvested from each hectare, added: This year, 6800 tons of pistachios will be harvested from the gardens of this city.
He acknowledged: This figure has decreased by five percent compared to last year due to drought and spring and winter frosts.
Zarezadeh further mentioned the cultivars of Koleghoochi, Ouhadi, Akbari and Ahmad Aghaei as the most important commercial cultivars of pistachio in this city.
The director of Mehriz Jihad-e-Agriculture stated that the number of pistachio recording terminals in this city is 63 and said: Unfortunately, 30 of them are not active due to lack of produce.
He noted: Currently, 3,000 indigenous and non-indigenous households in the city of Mehriz are engaged in the production, processing and recording of this product.
At the end, Zarezadeh stated that the decrease in groundwater level and the high level of cultivation in relation to the amount of available water are the most important problems of pistachio farmers in this city.
