Pistachio harvest from 7000 hectares under Ardakan cultivation
The head of Ardakan pistachio research station announced the beginning of pistachio harvest from 7000 hectares under cultivation of this crop in the city.
Engineer Mirabzadeh of Yazd region in Ardakan, while stating that Yazd province is the second largest producer of pistachios in the country, said: Ardakan is one of the genetic and hereditary reserves of pistachios in the country.
He added: The average yield of pistachios in this city is one ton per hectare and this year due to the effects of frost and drought in 2007 we are facing a decrease in yield.
He emphasized: There are about 70 pistachio processing workshops and 6 pistachio recording terminals in this city. Mirabzadeh said: The main pistachio growing areas of Ardakan are cultivators north of Ardakan, Ahmadabad, Turkabad and Chah Afzal.
Almond, Khanjari, Haj Abdollahi, Parandehi, Ahmad Aghaei, Hazelnut and Kolechoochi pistachios are produced in Ardakan.
