Pistachio production in Zarand city has decreased by 18,000 tons this year.
Hamid Khaleghi, one of the experts of Zarand County Agriculture Department, stated: Considering that pistachio crop as a strategic crop has a special place among the products of the agricultural sector, in this regard, there were problems and shortcomings in the field and the harvest of this crop can be seen.
Regarding the area under pistachio cultivation and production of this product this year, he said: Considering that the area under pistachio cultivation in the city is 40,000 hectares and the amount of pistachio production last year was 48,000 tons, but unfortunately due to coercive factors such as Drought, frost and storms have reduced the production of this crop this year by 18,000 tons to 30,000 tons this year.
Khaleghi also mentioned about pistachio processing workshops in the city: At present, 3540 workshops traditionally process and sell their pistachios, and 1500 workshops process semi-mechanized and 66 workshops process fully mechanized pistachios. In these workshops, the percentage of pistachio aflatoxin in traditional compared to traditional and semi-mechanized workshops is zero.
Regarding olive cultivation, Khaleghi emphasized: Olive harvesting has started in 15 hectares of olives in the city since the beginning of October this year.
Also, the promotion of public participation and horticulture of Jihad Keshavarzi has a total of 2 tons and 750 kg of saffron onions for cultivation and has been distributed among saffron farmers.
In the end, he mentioned about planting corn and borage: borage has been planted in the cold areas of the city for about half a hectare and the corn harvest will start in early September at 110 hectares and will be completed by the end of October, which is approximately 3500 kg per hectare. We will have corn.
