Pistachio production this year will reach below 150,000 tons due to frost in orchards.
Gheibi, director general of the Pistachio Office of the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture, added at the first monthly meeting of the Tehran Chamber of Deputies this year: Currently, 398,000 hectares are for pistachio orchards in the country.
He said: In 1382, the amount of pistachio production in the country was 228 thousand tons, which in 1381 included a figure of about 180 thousand tons.
Gheibi stated that 10 provinces of the country are the main centers of pistachio production and said: pistachios are also produced in other provinces, but they cannot be exported. Of course, about 25% of the country’s orchards are dedicated to pistachios.
Director General of Pistachio of the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture, pointing out that last year 207 thousand tons of pistachios worth 803 million dollars were produced, said: This amount shows 36% in terms of weight and 61% in terms of value compared to 1381.
He continued: Pistachio, like any food, will get sick if it is exposed to moisture.
According to the EU plan, Iran must clear its pistachios of aflatoxin within a three-year period, of which there are only 40 days left, Ghaibi said. Last year, 490 shipments of pistachios exported to Europe were returned to Iran.
During the first few months of this year, about 293 shipments of exported pistachios have been returned to the country, he concluded.
