Predicting increase in rice production in Gilan

The director of agriculture affairs of Gilan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: considering the increase in the distribution of certified seeds, it is predicted that we will see a quantitative and qualitative increase in the province’s rice production.

Ebrahim Akbarzadeh, pointing out that the distribution of certified rice seeds has started in the province, said: Compared to last year, the amount of certified rice seed distribution has increased.

He added: This year, more than 2200 tons of certified Hashemi, Anam, Gilaneh and Rash rice seeds will be distributed among Gilan farmers, while last year it was 1600 tons.

Akbarzadeh continued: The distribution of this seed is done in all cities of Gilan and helps to make the paddy fields uniform.

Referring to the high germination power of certified seeds, he added: Using these seeds will increase the quality and quantity of white rice in the province.

The director of agriculture affairs of Gilan Jihad Agricultural Organization stated that we plan to increase the production of certified seeds to 3200 tons by next year, and specified: this seed is free of weeds and reduces the costs of planting, holding and harvesting.

He added: Reducing rice waste has been certified as another achievement of using seeds and reducing waste has an effective role in increasing farmers’ income from rice sales.

Akbarzadeh said: Gilan has 238 thousand hectares of paddy lands and so far plowing has been done in 40 thousand hectares of these paddy fields.
