The director of Khash Agricultural Jihad said: Last year, 8000 tons of dates were produced in Khash city, and it is expected that about 10 thousand tons of dates will be harvested from these areas this year.

Toghi stated: In Khash city, cultivation of two types of blue and rainfed dates is common, and blue dates have a better quantity and quality than rainfed dates. Harvesting dates from the hottest area of ​​Khash (Rutak) will start from the beginning of August and will continue until the end of September.

He stated that the whole part of Iranians and Karvander district and the area behind the mountain are the main areas of date production in Khash city, and specified: 95% of the area under date cultivation in these areas belongs to Rabbi cultivar.

Tawqi went on to say that the city of Khash has a 120-kilometer border with Pakistan, adding that dates from the Rutak region are mostly exported to Pakistan. Yield in date palm orchards is 1500 kg per hectare in rainfed and 4500 kg in irrigated orchards.

He added: “The main occupation of the people of Irandegan, Karvander and Rutak areas in Khash city is agriculture in palm orchards and more than 2000 people are directly engaged in this work.” The area under cultivation of the province’s groves is 55,000 hectares. The area under cultivation of rainfed dates in Khash city is about 3000 hectares and the area under cultivation of irrigated dates is 4500 hectares.

According to ISNA, the Rutak border area is part of the central part of Khash, which is located on the 124-kilometer border with Pakistan.

According to the head of the Sistan and Baluchestan Agricultural Jihad Organization, most of the farmers in the province’s agricultural sector work in the field of dates, as last year they harvested more than 218,000 tons of dates from the province’s groves.

Najafi added: Annually, about 225,000 tons of dates are produced from the fertile groves of Sistan and Baluchestan province, which is 44,000 hectares. Dates related to the province are exported to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Persian Gulf countries, Central Asia and European countries.
