Prediction of harvesting 12000 tons of walnuts in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad
Director of Horticulture of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Agricultural Jihad Organization said: it is expected that more than 12 thousand tons of walnuts will be harvested in this province this year.
Zavareh Azadpour said: the area under cultivation of walnut orchards in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces is 8,000 hectares.
He said that they started harvesting this crop from the province’s orchards in late September, adding: Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad have 8,000 hectares of walnut orchards and it is expected that more than 12,000 tons of walnuts will be harvested in this province.
The director of horticulture affairs of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Agricultural Jihad Organization pointed out that the province’s walnuts include local, transplanted, Chandler, Pedro, Sar, Frankit and Jamal cultivars: Each kilogram of walnuts in the province is sold for between 50 and 70 thousand tomans, depending on the quality.
Azadpour stated that the walnut harvest will continue until the end of October, and specified: Boyer-Ahmad, Dena, Charam and Kohgiluyeh counties have the most walnuts in the province, respectively.
He continued: Rehabilitation of old orchards using branch transplantation and development of new orchards by planting commercial transplant seedlings is one of the Jihad-e-Agriculture programs of the province.
The director of horticulture affairs of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province Jihad Agricultural Organization stated: The main problem in the old gardens has been frost and hail damage.
Azadpour said: Due to the drought last year, the yield of walnut production in the province was lower than this year.
