Production forecast of 18,000 tons of onions in Hersin
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hersin city predicted: 18 thousand tons of onions will be produced in this city this year.
Cyrus Nowruzi announced the area under onions cultivation in the current crop year in Hersin city as 330 hectares and added: the average onion yield in Harsin city is 55 tons per hectare.
Nowruzi, referring to the increase of 30 hectares of onions cultivation area in Hersin city in the current crop year, said: Last year, 300 hectares of farms in Hersin city were cultivated with onions.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hersin city added: last year, a total of 15 thousand tons of onions were produced in this city.
Nowruzi then considered most of the onions produced in this city to be red and stated: This type of onions, which is called Azarshahr red cultivar, has a high durability and has a good marketability in terms of size.
He went on to say that currently no onions processing is done in the city, he said: Onion produced in this city is supplied raw in the province and other provinces of the country.
Nowruz, stating that we are looking for an investor to process onions, invited those interested in investing in this field.
Nowruzi described investing in onion processing as both employment-generating and high-income.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Hersin city, referring to the plan to develop onion cultivation in Hersin city, said: Considering the relatively high water demand of onion cultivation, we are looking to develop its seedling cultivation to reduce water consumption and increase production. This year, for the first time, about 10 hectares of onion seedlings have been planted in Hersin city, which has been very successful.
Nowruzi, referring to the beginning of onion harvest in the farms of Hersin city, stated: Onion harvest in this city will continue until October 6th.
