Jafar Imanian stated: It is predicted that 2,664 tons of grapes will be harvested from Mahabad vineyards this year, which is a 30% increase compared to the previous year.
He added: In Mahabad, there are currently a total of 590 hectares of vineyards, of which 488 hectares are fertile gardens and the rest are infertile.
The director of Mahabad Agricultural Jihad, stating that this year a permit for the construction of water gardens has not been issued in the province, continued: Currently, 152 hectares of vineyards in this city are irrigated and 336 hectares are rainfed.
Imanian added: It is predicted that 1,824 tons of crops will be harvested from rain-fed vineyards with an average of 3 tons per hectare and 840 tons of crops will be harvested from irrigated fields with an average of 12 tons per hectare.
He said that the grape harvest season is from the end of this month to the first half of October, adding that the implementation of extension programs for farmers and the absence of frost has increased the production of this product this year.
The official in charge of cultivating rain-fed crops considered it an important factor to prevent erosion and destruction of natural resources and said: in critical conditions and lack of water resources, grape crop due to low water needs in the province can be one of the alternative crops in the province and basin Promote and cultivate the catchment area of Lake Urmia.
Imanian stated: In this city, there are a total of 10,500 hectares of orchards, of which more than 8,500 hectares are fertile, the largest amount of which is allocated to seeded fruits, including apples.
Mahabad, with more than 80,000 hectares of lands suitable for gardening and agriculture, is one of the important centers of agricultural production.
