Pyaram dates are the best product of Hormozgan
With the onset of summer and the so-called southern date-growers in the south of the country, the harvest of dates from groves begins; Dates are one of the most important fruits in the tropics, and in Hormozgan, different varieties can be found in abundance in the market.
In the south of the country and the northernmost point of Hormozgan province, right at the end of the Zagros Mountains, there are foothill areas that can be said to grow one of the most delicious semi-dry dates in the world, which is called Pyaram in the local dialect.
The thin skin of Pyaram dates is dark brown in color and due to the fact that the flesh and skin are completely adhered to each other, it has a beautiful and desirable appearance, the moisture content of the fruit is low and it is considered a semi-dry cultivar which is a late ripening fruit. And it is very marketable in terms of exports.
A farmer in the Persian Gulf region stated: Due to the fact that there are suitable conditions for agriculture and planting palm trees in Hajiabad city, a large number of villagers are cultivating dates.
Azad Awadpour stated: Our main product is Pyaram dates, along with Khasavi and Shahani samples, which are less than Pyaram.
He added: Due to the cold weather compared to other parts of Hormozgan, the conversion of unripe dates to ripe and dry dates takes place later than normal and it seems that the last date harvest in Hormozgan province is related to the northernmost villages.
Awadpour pointed out: Due to the climatic conditions, the dates of Salehabad village have a higher quality than other areas, and it is natural that the price of dates harvested from this area is also higher.
He stated that the harvest of dates in this region starts from October 11 and continues until the end of November, he said: to prevent pests and birds and bees to feed on dates, we make the date crop shortly before it becomes rotten so that the crop Avoid these hazards of injury.
Irrigation and, if necessary, pruning of these trees will continue until harvest, and due to the youth of our grove and the constant increase in the number of palms, we need independent cold storages to market the product at our own discretion, the farmer said.
He emphasized: After harvesting, we send the dates to the factory and after performing the necessary operations such as polishing, disinfection, the product is packaged and enters the market.
In the end, Awadpour said: The supply of Hajiabad Pyaram dates in the market is done by intermediaries who we hope will increase the date harvest in this region in the coming years so that we can undertake its export as well.
