Bahram Sarmast considered Qom handmade carpet industry as one of the important export effects of the province and added: Qom has a unique global brand in the field of silk handmade carpet production.
He stated: ‌ Significant measures have been taken in this province to solve the problems of handmade carpet activists during the last year, and the most important of them is to improve the supply of raw materials.
Qom is the most important center for the production of handmade silk carpets in the country and more than 90% of the handmade carpets produced in this province are exported to different countries.
27,000 weavers, 350 production units, 130 sales units, 10 dyeing workshops, 40 carpet washing workshops and 31 repair and restoration workshops are under the supervision of Qom Handmade Carpet Union. The producers of rural handmade carpets in Qom province have 5,000 weavers.
Qom Handmade Carpet Exporters Union and Qom Carpet Joint Stock Company with 500 carpet weaving families are other active sectors in the field of handmade carpets.
On average, 40,000 square meters of handmade silk carpets are produced annually, and about $ 10 million worth of carpets are exported annually from the province.
According to the governor, carpet, footwear and slippers, polymer and metal industries are the most important export opportunities in the province.
He continued: “The main basis for export is to improve the business environment and support industrial units and economic actors.”
The governor of Qom pointed out: “Also, some units of the province’s polymer industry have a significant capacity to export goods to target export countries.”
He added: “A large part of the export volume of Qom province in terms of weight is the export of shoe and machine slipper industry.”
“Iraq, Afghanistan and other neighboring countries are the most important export markets for the Qom shoe and footwear industry,” Sarmast said.
He stated: Qom has its own brand in the shoe industry and every year different exhibitions are held at the national and international levels to introduce this industry.
The governor of Qom said: the existence of various metal, iron and cast iron industries has created a significant capacity for the industrial development of these industries and the export of the final product.
He pointed out that the extensive activity of industrial units producing detergents and specialized wood and furniture towns has also increased the province’s export opportunities.
Sarmast said: “In order to develop exports in Qom, the meetings of the relevant working groups will be held continuously and the policies will be determined.”
The governor of Qom reminded: From the beginning of this year to the end of December, 170 million dollars worth of goods worth 200,000 tons have been exported from Qom.
He added: “This statistic has increased by 20% compared to the same period last year.”
The volume of investment made for the existing industrial and mining units of the province is 48 thousand and 851 billion Rials, which with this volume of investment has been created in 2 thousand and 225 industrial units and mining industries of the province for 56 thousand and 153 tons of employment opportunities.
