The head of the Northern Tea Factory Syndicate announced the closure of the majority of tea factories and announced: At least 10,000 tons of dry tea production has decreased compared to last year.

Nemat Yavarzadeh said: 210 tea factories were active in the northern provinces, most of which are currently closed or on the verge of closing due to lack of economic justification.

He explained the reason for the closure of the northern tea factories as the disappearance of tea gardens and the production of green tea leaves: Due to the dependence of tea gardens and factories due to production problems, factories are out of business and the tea industry is dying.

Yavarzadeh lamented that the tea industry in the country is declining, said: ‌This product has no place in the Iranian economy and consumer market, and in the last two years the problems of tea production and processing has reached its peak.

The head of the Syndicate of Northern Tea Factories added: During this period, the product has survived only by relying on import licenses to domestic tea buyers, and now that the sales licenses have expired, this product has no economic benefits.

He reminded: for each kilogram of Iranian dry tea purchased, buyers were given an exemption from the import tariff of two kilograms of foreign tea, which is no longer an applicant for buying tea, and last year’s licenses expired.

Yavarzadeh stated: There are about 70,000 tea growers in the country who have 34,000 hectares of tea gardens, but no support is produced for this community.

The head of the Syndicate of Northern Tea Factories, noting that 30,000 tons of dry tea was produced in the country last year, said: Due to the favorable climatic conditions, 35,000 tons of dry tea should have been produced this year, but due to problems caused by These include non-delivery of fertilizer to tea growers, low guaranteed purchase price, lack of economic efficiency of green leaf harvesting and closure of factories and problems of diesel supply, etc. The amount of green tea leaf harvesting and dry tea production has decreased compared to last year.

According to him, 21,000 tons of dry tea have been produced so far, which will eventually add another 2,000 to 3,000 tons, so at least 10,000 tons of dry tea production has decreased compared to last year.
