Reduction of 7,000 tons of Iranian tea due to drought

The head of the Tea Organization said: Last year, 31,000 tons of dry tea were produced in the country, but this year, due to reduced rainfall, production decreased to 24,000 tons.

Mohammadoli Roozbehan announced the production of 108 thousand tons of green tea leaves worth about 203 billion tomans this year.

He added: So far, about 130 billion tomans, equivalent to 65% of the approximate value of tea, has been paid to tea growers.

Roozbehan continued: The government has supported tea growers since 2014 with a reasonable increase in the guaranteed purchase price of green tea leaves and the continuation of the guaranteed purchase of green tea leaves, as well as the payment of interest-free agricultural loans with a five-year repayment.

The head of the Tea Organization, referring to the increasing trend of green tea leaf production in the country, noted: The country’s tea production increased significantly from 14,600 tons of dry tea in 1393 to 31,000 tons last year, and this year despite the drought. We were able to produce 24,000 tons of dry tea in the country, and this trend continues.

Referring to the revival of 4,000 inactive tea gardens, Roozbehan stated: Currently, there are 21,500 hectares of active tea gardens in the country, of which about 4,000 hectares have been improved.

According to him, with the improvement of tea gardens, the quality and quantity of the product will change, which should be given more attention.
