The Director General of Fisheries of Gilan stated that 99% of the sturgeon stocks in the Caspian Sea have been damaged, adding: Currently, commercial sturgeon are not harvested from the Caspian Sea and these fish are caught only to produce and rebuild stocks.
Shabani called the sturgeon breeding place in Gilan in the center of the trench section of Rasht city and said: the caviar extracted in the mentioned center becomes baby fish and we release it in the sea.
He announced the annual release of two million sturgeon fry through the Sefidrood River into the Caspian Sea and said: The release is done to rebuild reserves in the Caspian Sea.
The Director General of Fisheries of Gilan, referring to the fishing of white fish on the southern shores of the Caspian Sea in Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, said: 8 to 9 thousand tons of white fish are harvested annually in the Caspian Sea in Gilan.
White fish reproduction in Gilan rivers reached zero
Shabani pointed to the annual catch of 7,000 tons of kilka in Gilan and reminded: kilka and mullet fish spawn and give birth in the Caspian Sea, but the reproduction of white fish has reached zero due to the unfavorable condition of rivers in the natural environment.
He stated that the reconstruction of white fish stocks is done through artificial reproduction, adding that 170 to 180 million pieces of bony juveniles up to one gram are raised annually in the program of the General Directorate of Fisheries of Gilan.
The Director General of Fisheries of Gilan pointed to the release of fish produced in inland waters, especially Anzali Wetland and added: 140 to 150 million pieces of whitefish are released annually through rivers leading to the Caspian Sea in the province and through this we can sustainable fishing for 4,000 fishermen To have in Gilan.
Shabani pointed out that the production of each piece of whitefish costs about 60 to 70 tomans, said: to raise each piece of sturgeon costs about four thousand tomans.
