Deputy of Aquaculture of Gilan General Directorate of Fisheries said: more than 60% of caviar and 30% of sturgeon meat produced in the country are supplied in Gilan province.

Ebrahim Bigton pointed out: In the sturgeon farms of Iran, 600 tons of sturgeon meat worth 30 billion Tomans are produced annually. In addition to fish meat, 1200 kg of caviar worth 10 billion tomans is extracted.

He pointed out that with the export of caviar produced in Iran, the country will earn $ 3 million in foreign exchange, he added: more than 60% of caviar and 30% of caviar meat produced in the country will be supplied in Gilan.

Bigton added: about 30% of the sturgeon produced in the country is discarded as waste, while processing this waste and turning it into by-products up to 9 billion tomans will be added to the income from sturgeon breeding and sale.

Gilan Deputy Minister of Aquaculture, referring to the need to commercialize the technical knowledge of sturgeon waste processing industries, said: According to the development vision document, the production of sturgeon should increase to 20,000 tons by 1404, of which 6,000 tons of waste will remain. It remains that its processing, taking into account the current price, generates more than 90 billion tomans of revenue.

Although the commercialization of this indigenous knowledge is not cost-effective for investors due to the lack of raw material (sturgeon waste), but by collecting sturgeon farming waste from the Caspian littoral countries, waste products of this Caspian species can be mass-produced.

He reminded: Caspian littoral countries have banned fishing for 5 years since 2011 to preserve sturgeon stocks.
