Revival of traditional wood mosaic in Iran
According to the public relations of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Institute, Galareh Khalilian, an artist and researcher at the Wood Workshop of the Traditional Arts Research Institute, explained: Traditional wood mosaics are a common practice that has been discovered in archeological excavations in historical sites such as the burnt city.
He added: For example, now, in order to revive this method, along with previous works, a bowl made of walnut wood with designs inspired by pottery from Neishabour period is being made in the traditional wood workshop in the wood workshop of the Traditional Arts Research Institute of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Institute.
According to Khalilian, in contrast to today’s wood mosaic, unlike today’s wood mosaic, the negative space or the empty space is filled by wood and the design is created.
The researcher stated: This is while in today’s wood mosaic method, design is done by arrangement.
According to him, traditional wood mosaics are now made in countries such as India, Syria, etc.
In the end, the artist stated that in Iran at present, wood mosaic is done by arranging colored woods next to each other and placing them on a support (under the work), in which negative spaces are filled with wood or polyester paint.
