The representative of the people of Sirjan and Bardsir in the Islamic Consultative Assembly said: “With the help of carpet activists and provincial and city officials, since last year, the preparations for the global registration of Sirjan’s Milky Way kilims have begun.”
He added: “Next week, representatives of UNESCO will travel to Sirjan so that if the documents are confirmed, Sirjan’s kilim will be registered worldwide and Daristan village will be introduced as a global kilim village.”
Hassanpour continued: “There are more than 14,000 weavers in Sirjan, and if the Milky Way kilim becomes global, their valuable art can be further supported.”
He said: “Sirjan’s Milky Way kilim is one of the most famous Iranian handicrafts that has been nominated for registration in the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its antiquity, originality and unique features in its weaving method.”
The people’s representative of Sirjan and Bardsir added: “Documentary activities of this traditional art have been started by the officials of Kerman province and Sirjan city since last year and UNESCO evaluators will travel to Sirjan early next week to review the documents and capabilities of Shirki-Pich wrap kilim for global registration.” Put.
