South Khorasan thyme in world markets
100% of South Khorasan thyme is exported to Arab, Persian Gulf and European countries.
Director General of Natural Resources and Watershed Management of South Khorasan said: This year, 40 tons of thyme were harvested from 58,000 hectares of its habitats in Tabas and Bashravieh.
The total area of habitats in South Khorasan is one million hectares, of which 107 hectares can be harvested.
Thyme is a short, branched shrub. Its herbaceous branches are covered with leaves at the top of the stem. Its tiny white flowers grow single and umbrella.
The fruit is a four-part hazelnut. Thyme is a herbaceous plant with hairy and white stems of the mint family (Lamiasceae) whose flowering and leafy branches can be used.
Inhaled, it helps digest food and is anti-cough and expectorant, and is used in bronchitis, pertussis and inflammation of the upper respiratory tract.
