The awkward knot of the art of handmade carpet industry
The head of the carpet department of the Samat Gilan Organization said: Currently, the staggering price of raw materials is an awkward knot in the art of handmade carpet industry, and it has increased the cost of carpet production.
Mojtaba Mehri, stating that Gilan is one of the poles of handmade silk carpets in the country, said: 70 to 80% of carpets and rugs woven in Gilan are silk and some are woven either in the form of silk flowers or silk floor.
Referring to the increase in the cost of handmade carpets, he added: The increase in the price of raw materials is one of the important reasons for the increase in the cost of carpets in the province and special measures should be considered so that these costs do not increase more than the current rate.
Mehri pointed out that the revitalization of silk factories and the establishment of silk factories, which are currently stagnant, could play an effective role in supplying raw materials for silk carpets.
He specified: At present, over 13,000 people in Gilan are weavers of handmade carpets, who weave more than 51,000 square meters of carpets annually.
Mehri said: For most weavers of hand-woven carpets, buying raw materials is very staggering, and special measures must be considered to keep these weavers in this art of industry.
