The effect of black cumin oil extract in reducing the damage of a deadly infection

The results of researchers at Tarbiat Modares University proved: Black cumin essential oil increases the antioxidant effects, can reduce tissue damage due to oxidative stress sepsis.

Sepsis is a systemic response to acute infection that is increasing in prevalence and is currently the third leading cause of death from infection. There is ample evidence that sepsis causes oxidative stress.
Today, there are various inflammatory animal models for sepsis research that have been used in a research project at Tarbiat Modares University due to the reproducibility and ease of the CLP model.

In this study, using sepsis, sepsis was induced in mice and the groups of oil and aqueous extracts of black cumin were injected in two doses of 100 and 50 mg / kg b.w. At different hours of 2, 4, 8, 16 and 24 hours later, liver, lung and plasma of mice were examined.
Then oxidative stress factors such as lipid peroxidation, glutathione s-transferase, glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, bilirubin, uric acid and total protein and the metabolizing factor of cytochrome drugs were measured.

In this study, it was found that administration of black cumin oil extract in two doses of 100 and 50 mg / kg bw to mice with sepsis caused a decrease in lipid peroxidation (15%), an increase in glutathione levels (55%) and an increase in superoxide dismutase activity. (42%), catalase (45%), glutathione s-transferase (double) and cytochrome (double). While aqueous extract of black cumin in both doses of 100 and 50 mg / kg b.w has no effect on oxidative and metabolic factors of drugs.

According to the results of this study, it seems that black cumin essential oil increases the antioxidant effects and therefore has been able to reduce tissue damage due to oxidative stress and sepsis.
