The effect of green tea in preventing spinal nerve damage
Chinese experts have found in a new study that polyphenols can protect spinal nerves from oxidative stress.
Chinese doctors say the results of this study show that the polyphenols in green tea are powerful antioxidants that can protect spinal nerves in cases of damage and reduce the production of free radicals, which are harmful molecules to the body.
Laboratory studies in mice have shown that green tea extract significantly lowers oxidative pressure, said Jianbo Zhao, the study’s lead author.
Oxidative stress is also an important factor in secondary injuries after spinal cord injury. Accumulation of oxidation residues causes a combination of harmful effects such as DNA damage and protein oxidation.
According to Chinese experts, the results of this study also indicate that there is a treatment for nerve repair and regeneration after spinal cord injury.
