The effective method of thyme cultivation was achieved scientifically
The results of research conducted in the Department of Toxicology and Teratology of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Center of Bu Ali Research Institute of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences showed: Aqueous extract and alcoholic extract of thyme are very toxic to the fetus and cause very large abnormalities in the mouse fetus.
In this study, mice were exposed to aqueous or alcoholic thyme extract from the sixth to the fifteenth day of pregnancy and experienced symptoms such as severe salivation, stretching of the extremities due to pain, severe changes in overweight and heavy bleeding, all of which are symptoms of pregnancy toxicity. .
Dr. Seyed Adel Moallem, Toxicology Specialist and Assistant Professor, Mashhad School of Pharmacy, who conducted this project, said: Are also soluble in alcohol, which calls into question the use of this plant as a brew or dissolved in alcohol.
He added: In the group receiving alcohol doses, skeletal disorders are mostly related to disorders of the skull and occipital bones, which indicates that the alcoholic extract passed well through the placenta and had the greatest effect on the development of cranial bones.
In conclusion, Dr. Moallem pointed out: Due to the widespread disorders in the mouse embryo with high and long-term use of this plant in pregnant women, there is a possibility of fetal disorders and it is time to forget the idea that medicinal plants are safe. It should be entrusted and the use of medicinal plants in the society, especially in pregnant women, should be done more scientifically and with more awareness.
