The head of the National Carpet Center of Iran said: in the first seven months of this year, 2620 tons of handmade carpets worth $ 142 million were exported to about 80 countries, which shows an increase of about 3% in weight but a decrease of about 10% in value. it shows.

Hamid Kargar, stating that the speculations of the carpet market show that two factors may be effective in reducing the value of handmade carpet exports, said: We hope to see an increasing trend in exports with the implementation of Borjam.

He added: The second factor of this decrease is a kind of avoidance for exports and the market’s expectation to lift the embargo on the export of our carpets to the United States, and in this regard, we are optimistic that Iranian handmade carpets will enter the United States directly with the lifting of sanctions.

Kargar, meanwhile, said: In the first seven months of this year, European countries, Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland had the largest share of Iranian carpet purchases, and among the Arab countries, the UAE, Lebanon and Qatar were the main markets for Iranian carpets. Among East Asian countries, Japan and China, as two significant markets, welcomed Iranian carpets.

The head of the National Carpet Center of Iran added: The increase in the weight of carpets exported in the first seven months of this year, along with a slight decrease in value, showed a difference in the type of our exported carpet in the first seven months of this year.

The need for foreign advertising of Iranian handmade carpets
Kargar stressed that one of the important events that should be pursued to increase and expand the export market of Iranian carpets is the issue of foreign advertising of Iranian handmade carpets: for this purpose, a comprehensive advertising program focusing on the European market, especially German-speaking countries is on the agenda National Carpet and is in the final stages of cooperation with the Union of Iranian Carpet Importers in Europe, which we hope will start this campaign at the same time as Demotex 2016 in Germany, and of course everyone is waiting for Borjam to be implemented and the process of exporting handmade carpets to resume.
