With the efforts of artists in this field and the high potential of the city in the field of inlaid furniture, Malayer in 2017 as the national city of inlaid furniture by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts and in 1398 as the world city of inlaid furniture by UNESCO Introduced and registered.
At present, this city, with 5,000 production units and employment of about 25,000 people directly and 35,000 people indirectly, has been able to produce 65% of the country’s inlaid furniture.
But now this global industry is collapsing and breaking the backs of producers. The most important problem that Malay woodcarvers are struggling with these days is the high production costs of raw materials.
Due to the 10-year respiration of northern forests, producers are forced to use low-quality imported wood. On the other hand, fluctuations in the foreign exchange market these days have doubled the problems of this imported raw material for Malay woodcarvers.
