The head of the National Saffron Council of Iran, stating that now the purchase price of saffron from a farmer is one-twenty-fifth of the world market, said: Saffron should be known in the world as Iran.

Mohsen Ehtesham stated: The National Saffron Council is a national organization that is composed of producers and exporters at the national level.

He added: In the first four months of this year, due to the outbreak of the Corona virus, compared to the same period last year, we have had a 10% drop in saffron exports.

The Chairman of Birjand Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, with the emphasis of the Supreme Leader on preventing the sale of raw materials, decided that the National Saffron Working Group with the presence of representatives of the Ministries of Silence, Jihad Agriculture, National Saffron Council Trade Development Organization, Chambers of Commerce and Cooperatives and all individuals. They are working in the field of saffron.

He stated: The National Saffron Council has implemented a national plan to improve the level of saffron to improve the quality of this product for the past 8 years.

Ehtesham continued: in the National Saffron Working Group, with the presence of the Chambers of Commerce and Cooperatives of Iran and the National Saffron Council, interacting with the government body, the situation of saffron will be addressed.

Emphasizing the activities of this working group in preventing value-added exports to help the economic debate, he added: 80% of saffron is exported in raw form and only 20% is exported in packaging.

The head of the National Saffron Council of Iran, stating that the price of saffron is not favorable in proportion to the effort of farmers, clarified: saffron packaging should be with the Iranian brand and be exported with this brand.

Ehtesham stated that the purchase price from the farmer is very far from the export price, adding that with the increase in the exchange rate, the capital of saffron farmers is wasted and there is a large price gap between the purchase price from the farmer to the export market.

Ehtesham reminded: The National Saffron Council is trying to move towards branding saffron prices in favor of fair farmers by branding and presence in the global market and managing the saffron export market.
