Dr. Fariborz Moatar, Professor of the Department of Pharmacology, has studied the antimicrobial effects of ampicillin and Zataria multiflora essential oil in a project.
The results of this study showed: The antifungal effect of Zataria multiflora extracts is stronger and more effective than all known plants that have antifungal effects such as cucumber, walnut, turmeric and cinnamon.
The continuation of this plan is as follows; Thyme essential oil in Fars province was prepared by steam distillation and its antimicrobial effect on two common pathogenic microorganisms E.coli from the group of gram-negative microbes and S.areous from the group of gram-positive microbes was studied as Tnviv, which Ampicillin antibiotic was used as a comparison.
The results of these studies showed that Zataria multiflora essential oil had significant antimicrobial effects on both microorganisms.
This research states; Thyme can be used as a suitable antimicrobial agent in food preservation and control of human and animal diseases.
In conclusion, the results of this study recommend: In using thyme essential oil as a food preservative, the effect of essential oil on food spoilage microorganisms should be investigated first, and if effective, they should be used in industrial applications.
