The director of handicrafts of Khuzestan province said: foreign and domestic tourists buy more than 90% of handicrafts and take them with them as souvenirs as a cultural ambassador of the people.
Behzad Amiri, referring to the interaction between handicrafts and tourism, said: Certainly the best buyers of Iranian handicrafts are tourists who come from abroad. He continued: ‌ In the sample areas in terms of tourism, handicraft markets have been predicted and this has led to many direct and positive effects on the development and prosperity of the country’s handicrafts market. The director of handicrafts of Khuzestan province further noted: I hope that with the implementation of sample tourism areas, we will see the establishment of many markets in the country.
Amiri continued: If we seek to improve the quality of handicrafts, we will definitely see a fundamental change in handicrafts. He pointed to the comparison of the country’s handicrafts in the present and the past and added: In the past, the production of handicrafts was more for personal consumption and from the Qajar period onwards, Iranian handicrafts were introduced to the whole world and this caused the production of handicrafts to increase. The director of handicrafts of Khuzestan province pointed to the issue of tourism prosperity and said: the entry of tourists and tourists to the country will create a prosperous and lucrative market in the field of handicrafts. He added: Over the past few years, due to the decrease in tourist arrivals to Iran, we have faced a decrease in exports and production of handicrafts.
Amiri also said: Due to the lack of communication with our foreign buyers, we have witnessed a decrease in the amount of handicraft sales in the country in terms of quality. He considered the arrival of tourists in the country as a sign of the prosperity of the handicrafts market in the country and added: Certainly, the arrival of tourists in Iran will improve the quality and increase the production of handicrafts and as a result will cause the prosperity of the handicrafts market.
The director of handicrafts of Khuzestan province said: Usually tourists are interested in any country they travel to take a sample of handicrafts of that country as the cultural and popular ambassador of that country.
He further pointed to the decrease in the number of tourists to Iran and added: The decrease in the number of tourists entering the country has been due to cultural, economic and social reasons. Amiri also said: ‌ By creating areas as model tourism areas in the whole country and creating the infrastructure needed to receive tourists, we will see an increase in tourists.
