The director of horticulture of the North Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization announced the beginning of the walnut and pistachio harvest in this province.
Engineer Abbas Ali Safaei said: 2,202 hectares of the province’s gardens are allocated to walnut orchards, of which 1,598 hectares are fertile and the rest are infertile.
He added: It is predicted that 3,466 tons of walnuts will be harvested from the province’s orchards this year.
The director of horticulture of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization also noted: It is predicted that the amount of walnut production this year will decrease by 30% compared to last year due to the late spring frosts.
Engineer Safaei said: Last year, 4,538 tons of walnuts were harvested from 2,202 hectares of orchards in the province.
He mentioned the average harvest of walnuts per hectare as 2,169 tons. He continued: The highest area of ​​walnut orchards in the province is allocated to Shirvan, Bojnourd and Farooj.
Engineer Safaei added: 477 hectares of the province’s orchards are dedicated to pistachio orchards, of which 100 hectares are fertile and the rest are infertile.
The director of horticulture of North Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization added: it is predicted that 113 tons of pistachios will be harvested from the orchards of the province this year.
He also pointed out: It is predicted that the amount of pistachio production this year will increase by 25% compared to last year due to proper nutrition of orchards and observance of agricultural issues by gardeners. Engineer Safaei said: Last year, 90 tons of pistachios were harvested from 477 hectares of orchards in the province.
