Walnut harvest will be reduced by 80%
The director of horticulture of North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: walnut harvest will be reduced by 80% this year in the province.
Haidar Namvar stated that the main reason for the decrease in walnuts in this province was the severe cold in April of this year.
He added: the amount of walnut harvest during the current year will be 800 tons.
He mentioned the amount of walnut harvest last year as 3,562 tons.
Namvar continued: the area under cultivation of walnut trees in this province is 1,670 hectares.
He further pointed out that North Khorasan is one of the leading provinces in grape production, said: Grape harvest during the current year due to severe cold in April and the prevalence of white spot disease in vineyards will be reduced by 60%.
He stated: The average harvest of grapes this year will be one hundred thousand tons.
The director of horticulture of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization explained: Due to the severe frost in the winter of 1986, the amount of grape production in 1987 decreased to 101 thousand tons.
He mentioned the area under cultivation of vineyards in this province as 17 thousand and 922 hectares.
