Walnut leaf extract improves acne
The results of a study showed that the ethanolic extract of walnut leaf is effective in the treatment of acne known as acne as a complementary herbal medicine due to its antibacterial properties.
Acne is one of the medical problems and Propionibacterium acne is considered as a major cause of this disease. The antimicrobial effects of different parts of the walnut tree have been proven on many bacteria. Walnut leaves also have an antioxidant effect and therefore, if it has an antibacterial effect on Propionibacterium acne, it can be considered as an alternative medicine for the treatment of this disease.
Farhad Sharafati from the Faculty of Medicine of Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences has conducted a study with the aim of investigating the antibacterial effect of walnut leaf extract on the acne bacterium Propion in vitro.
In this experimental study, ethanolic extract of walnut leaf and its antimicrobial effects were prepared by diffusion well method, determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) by tubular dilution method against Propionibacterium acne. Ampicillin (10 μg) was used as a positive control.
The results showed that the ethanolic extract of walnut leaves had an inhibitory effect on acne bacterium in both diffusion agar and macrodilution methods. The highest growth inhibition zone at a concentration of 150 mg / ml was equal to 25 7 1.7 mm, the MIC value was 12.5 mg / ml and the MBC value was 15 mg / ml.
The results indicate that the ethanolic extract of walnut leaves has an antimicrobial effect on Propionibacterium acne and can be used as antibacterial products in the treatment of external infections caused by this microorganism.
