Walnut production growth in Kurdistan

The director of horticultural affairs of Kurdistan Jihad Agricultural Organization, said: At present, Kurdistan province has the first rank in terms of walnut seedling production.

Ardeshir Pourhabibi stated: Kurdistan has also been able to rank 11th in terms of walnut production in the country.

He pointed out that the walnut harvesting work in Kurdistan province has started in late September of this year, adding: Sanandaj, Kamyaran, Sarvabad, Marivan and Baneh cities are the most important walnut producing areas in Kurdistan province.

Director of Horticulture of Kurdistan Jihad Agricultural Organization, stating that fortunately walnut nurseries in Kurdistan are up to 70% fruitful, added: The reason for the cold and temperate climate is one of the provinces prone to growing walnut trees.

Pourhabibi added: Currently, 23,000 tons of walnuts have been harvested from the nurseries under walnut cultivation in Kurdistan.

He stated that this year, 7537 hectares of agricultural lands in Kurdistan have been planted with walnut crops, noting: Genotypes for walnut crops in Kurdistan are among the best in the country in terms of quality.

The director of horticulture affairs of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Kurdistan province reminded: the amount of walnut harvest in Kurdistan province has increased by 10% compared to last year.
