Why the export of Iranian handmade carpets decreased
Hamid Kargar stated: “In the current situation, the art of Iranian handwoven carpet industry is not happy and especially in the field of export and foreign exchange, it is not only in optimal condition, but also in warning conditions.”
He said that one of the most important and first attributes of handmade carpets from the perspective of production and trade is currency appreciation and export, and said: “Therefore, when the export of handmade carpets decreases, production and employment in this industry will be affected.”
Kargar further informed about the recession in the decline of carpet exports in 1398 and said: “This is while the carpet has been one of the important items of non-oil exports of Iran for the past few decades and has experienced acceptable numbers in this regard.”
According to him, the export of carpets in the first eight months of last year was less than $ 50 million, which is about one tenth more than the average $ 500 million in carpet exports in the last two decades.
The chairman of the board of directors of the Iranian Carpet Scientific Association described this number as dangerous and said: “Since 1397, with the withdrawal of the United States from Borjam and the imposition of sanctions, the increasing trend of handmade carpet exports has stopped and its downward trend has begun.”
According to him, the export of handmade carpets in 1394 was about 290 million dollars, in 1395 about 359 million dollars and in 1396 was equal to 426 million dollars, but in 1397 the export of handmade carpets reached 238 million dollars.
Referring to the direct impact of reducing the export of handmade carpets and activists in this field and employees of various fields, including designers, painters, reflectors and other related occupations, the chairman of the board of directors of the Iranian Scientific Carpet Association stressed the need to take appropriate measures to improve the production and export of handmade carpets. Did.
Kargar said that part of the sharp decline in exports of handmade carpets was due to sanctions, which is acceptable. “Given that the United States, as the largest importer of handmade carpets, closed its doors to Iran, the decline in exports of natural carpets, But part of the decline in exports has come from self-imposed sanctions and recklessness. So that instead of supporting the activists in this field, they faced hardships and difficulties, and the least supportive tools were withheld from them.
According to him, the financing of carpet weavers is still difficult and has not been provided yet. Also, the increase in silk import tariffs last year increased the price of raw materials and, consequently, the cost of handmade carpets, as a result of which part of the competitive power of Iranian handmade carpets was taken both in the domestic market and in the international market.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Carpet Scientific Association also stated that all kinds of strict and variable rules and regulations have caused problems for traders and merchants in the field of handmade carpets. Exports are one of these damages.
Kargar said that the great variety of Iranian handmade carpets has long been able to meet many tastes, adding that about 80 countries are destined to export Iranian handmade carpets. Some countries, including the United States, some European countries and East Asia, have carpet in their lifestyles, but some countries are new export markets.
According to him, traditionally some European countries such as Germany, Italy, Switzerland, England, France, in the Americas themselves in the United States, in East Asia Japan and also some Arab countries on the Persian Gulf have been and are customers of Iranian handmade carpets.
