The history of handicrafts in Iran dates back to the millennium BC, and the first evidence of the existence of textiles in Iran dates back to 400 BC, which was found during excavations in Susa.
The first signs of weaving in Mazandaran can be traced back to about 500 BC. The tools found in the Belt Cave near Behshahr show that spinning of fleece and goat hair was common at that time.
Mazandaran weaving machines are mainly round and from the distant past of Mazandaran people, all kinds of clothes, towels, beds, screws of undergarments, blankets, robes, bedspreads, secret baths, night tents, jajim, sachim, glitch, kilims, silk fabrics Weaved with the materials around them, namely cotton, silk, wool and goat hair fibers.
Jajim weaving is found in Alasht in the south of Mazandaran province with a turning machine that is placed horizontally on the ground in front of the weaver. Jajim patterns are created in the form of stripes and basically of 7 colors that are very beautiful, bright and vivid.
These seven colors are red, brown, orange, green, black, white and blue. Jajim is woven both with woolen yarn and fabric and with cotton yarn and woolen weft. Sachim is a kind of weaving machine that is woven with a twisting machine with woolen thread and fabric and is common in the west of Mazandaran and its patterns in the form of colored beads together create square or rectangular shapes in the texture.
The designs are applied in the form of double weave on the work. Glitch is woven with a twisting machine and with the same technique of Jajim and Sachim. The only difference is that in the past, its warp and weft were both wool, but now it can be seen that it is also woven with cotton thread.
